«
Leaving Amish Paradise» is a follow-up on another documentary about the same amish community; «
Trouble in Amish Paradise». In the original, the camera team followed a family that was on their way out of the church after they had been «shauned» or handed over to the devil as the amish believes. The reason was that they wanted to become evangelical-christians, and read the bible in english, which the amish church denies it members. Only an old translation in german is allowed.
The documentary is balanced, and gives another perspective on the amish church then you will often get through the media. They are not only a peaceloving group of people who like the old lifestyle; they too have complex problems and disagreements in their communties. This results in a solid 5 out of 6.
I have always thought Amish to be silly for shunning technology, sometimes it is necessary to be reminded that despite their laughably backward ways, they are still people too
ReplyDeleteLooks pretty interesting, the first time I heard about the Amish people, was when I saw the village, and I was way younger xD
ReplyDelete5/6? It must be good.
ReplyDeleteSo it's nothing to do with the Weird Al song?

ReplyDeleteUntil this blog, I only knew about Amish people through Weird Al Yankovic's song "Amish Paradise".
ReplyDeleteHm, all I know about the Amish is that they're a group slowly disappearing. At least, that's what I've been hearing.
ReplyDeleteI will definitely give this a chance once I see 'Leaving Amish Paradise'.
I keep spendin' most my life, livin' in an Amish paradise!
ReplyDeleteAmish so crazy
ReplyDeleteI remember one Al Joankovic song named like this
ReplyDeleteReally cool in my opinion :D
ReplyDeleteI think I saw the first documentary a bit. It was actually pretty interesting.
ReplyDeleteNice review. I always like a different perspective.

ReplyDeleteSounds cool, the BBC did something like this a few months ago.
ReplyDeleteSeems like a pretty good doc, well reviewed as well :)

ReplyDeleteNice review. I have always had respect for the Amish community. I will check this out. :)
ReplyDeleteI had never really heard of the amish until a documentary in the UK last year where they tried to convert them to a more "liberal" lifestyle. The kids clearly enjoyed themselves and I felt bad about how their parents forced them to live..
ReplyDeleteNever really new much about Amish culture until this. Thanks for the review.
ReplyDelete5 out of 6? Wow, thats a surprise.
ReplyDeleteHas Louis Theroux ever covered the Amish lifestyle? I'd like to see that, but I suppose it isn't a very controversial thing.
ReplyDeletei see the amish driving minivans and going to walmart/mcds all the time whats up with that??
ReplyDeleteGood review, very interesting.
ReplyDeleteis that true that they speak german?
ReplyDeleteLooks interesting. Doesn't look like it's on netflix. Gonna have to find it somewhere to watch.
ReplyDeleteonly thing about the amish i know is what Weird Al said in his song Amish Paradice .
ReplyDeleteI Think im gonna watch this one, interessting topic
ReplyDeleteAmish people are cool
ReplyDeleteIs this on Netflix? I'll admit that I would probably fall asleep watching it, but still an interesting find nonetheless!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting, I've been spending most my life living in an Amish paradise so relevant to my interest.
ReplyDeleteAMISH PARADISE :)
ReplyDeleteI could never really take the Amish seriously, due to Weird Al Yankovich's "Amish Paradise" Too funny!
ReplyDeletelooking for it!, looks really interesting.
ReplyDeleteBeing Amish would be sooo hard.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else read the title and think of the song?
ReplyDelete"Anyone else read the title and think of the song?"
ReplyDeleteI sure did ;)
Alright. The concept is ok, even though basing an action like that over some BS is obsurd, it would make good watching material. Also whats with the rating system you use... x/6? why not 5 or ten?
ReplyDeleteI think amish girls are really attractive. Would love to hook up with one just once. Hair and all lol.
ReplyDeleteThat hits my interest, will look for it
ReplyDeleteit's funny seeing amish people at walmart , doesn't seem fitting
ReplyDeleteWeird al jankovich
